What if you watch a film and whenever you pause it, you face a painting? This idea inspired Reza Dolatabadi to make Khoda. Over 6000 paintings were painstakingly produced during two years to create a five minutes film that would meet high personal standards. Khoda is a psychological thriller; a student project which was seen as a ‘mission impossible’ by many people but eventually proved possible!

"Khoda" - 1 Minute Preview

Here is a minute preview of my short film “Khoda”. This film is my final year project for my animation degree. I started the project in 2006 with a vague concept by me and a friend of mine Mark Szalos Farkas . In June 2006 Adam Thomson joined us as a 3D artist. Adam and I worked on pre-production (Animatic, Story board, Character design, etc) and managed to finish that by the end of September 2006. Mark came back to the project later that year as an animator, and so far we have finished more than half of the film. If everything stays on schedule, the final film will be ready by March 2008.
This work took me about 2 hours Painted on 13th of September before breakfast. I kind of needed a break from animating work, so I started sketching out this face. I was thinking about a portrait with two different personality on the left and right side. I tried to keep one side more evil than the other side. However I’m not going to tell you which side is that, you might recognize it yourself.
I didn’t use any reference picture, but somehow I think she looks like my girlfriend, those of you who met here you might notice the similarities.
I used my old A4 Trust tabled for this one.

This is my first post. Please bear in mind that I did this image using a mouse in a Pentium 3 processor (student budget , I'm currently an Edinburgh college of Art illustration first year student).
Sometimes I remember my country by the sensations that I get abroad, just by closing my eyes and getting a faint familiar smell or just by projecting myself somewhere else. I got inspired by the streets of Edinburgh (Scotland) and all the birds that inhabit the gothic churches. I started sketching with crows around the face of one of my friends who has my favourite facial features, but then it was not that impressive and it got a very dark feeling...like a nightmare. Crits and comments are most welcome, knowing what a great community of artists this is I'm sure I can get the best feedback in order to improve my work.

Hi people,
This is a concept work of the giant robot for a short film “Godling” directed by Ross Carrie. However director thought it was rubbish lol, but for me it never meant to be the last sketch anyway. The fact that his head is little bit like Alien was not intentional (it just happened, out of the blue lol) I just wanted to have a shape of hunch on his back.

I am kind of involved in concept works in this project, but my main job is painting background for Ross.

There are some other sketches that I drew randomly for this robot and they are available here, http://www.rezaart.com/index.php?section=Films.

I started this work in January when I got my tablet from my uncle as a Christmas present. I was really exited, that was the very first time that I touched a Wacom tablet, and it was exactly what I was looking for. For the first few days I had a funny smile on my face while I was doodling with tablet. I had a feeling like the first time I sat on the motorbike…So after few sketches and few days, I got used to draw with graphic-pen rather than working with mouse. So I started this painting and I gave up after few days, because I was really involved with my college animation projects. In Easter 06 I started to work on my unfinished piece…
I signed this work at 4:45 AM 20th April, 06

Thanks for your visit and comments are welcome.

This painting is based on a series of sketches in my sketchbook. I kinda enjoyed working on this one. mainly because: not like most of my peaceful paintings this one has a bit violence in it (violence is fun)…
This image is based on one of my cartoons that I made in 2002 for my wee collection “.... Happens To Animals”. The original piece done with water colours and acrylic, however I made this one digitally by photoshop and some hand made texturs.

Cover for “The Epic of the Kings”

Here is the cover test for my first graphic novel series which is based on “Shahname” or in English “The Epic of the Kings”. The story content follows a Persian epic called Rostam in different adventures. I’m trying to keep the style of other pages of this comic same as the cover.

Example of 2 pages (you might find the style of script a bit weird and that’s because it is translation of Shahname poem’s which is written 500 years ago)

Also my early sketches for this project are availebel here:

I would be glad if I see your opinions, comments, critics etc under this piece. I think that would be a good guide for me, as I’m working on my first comic.

Thanks for your visit.

26 of May 06

I had a boring evening on 26 of May 06, so as usual I found that sketching with my tablet is the cheapest way to entertain myself. One hour after that I end up with this image and I called that ‘26 of may 06’

Additional note:
As I explained it took me about 1 hour to draw, but I believe it is possible for an artist to draw something in few minutes more informative than a finished painting.
That’s why I left the image in this stage.

Done with Photoshop and Wacom tablet,

Hope you like it and thanks for your visit.

I draw this one just this morning (16th May 2006), about 8ish in the morning I was tired of working all the night on my comic book, so I just opened a new blank page and started to play with my pen.

It took me about 30 min to draw in Photoshop,

Hope you like it,
